A rare grape variety from SARDINIA ...
Its isolation in the middle of the Mediterranean has made Sardinia a region with a maximum of typicality. Sardinia has found itself in grapes and wines which tell their own story, influenced as much by foreigners - Spaniards in particular as by the Italian mainland. For a decade, the Sardinians have drastically reduced production volumes and thus significantly improved the overall quality of their wines. Some have even produced Niederra, a native red grape, rare and unknown, from the Tirso Valley. This grape variety has been updated with elegance and authenticity in some areas, including the Cantina Sociale della Vernaccia. Wine of the latter, called "Montiprama", is fermented with maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature of 26 to 28 ° C for 10-12 days, followed by 12 months in cement tanks. Following that it spends 12 months aging in French small oak barrels and then 6 months in the bottle.
The colour is dark red with a purplish sheen.
On the nose, richly aromatic, it hints of red and black, with a touch of roasting on the finish.
The palate is both robust and flexible, with body and a light hint of black truffle; fairly long lingering flavour. A very good companion for all pasta dishes -homemade- for grilled meats, especially lamb (lamb noisettes with herb crust, stewed lamb with thyme, lamb stew, skewers of lamb Provençale style).
