Reviving Tradition: The Lecanda Family Estate
The Legacy of the Lecanda Family
Owned by the Lecanda family at the end of the 19th century, the estate as we know it today dates back to the 1990s when Peter Sisseck brought the place back to life. Initially he was alone in the venture, but was soon joined by another talented producer, Carlos de la Fuente, who arrived in 1992. Located to the east of Valladolid, between the villages of Pesquera and Valbuena, the estate covers 160 hectares of which 108 are planted with vines.
A Unique Vineyard Approach
Mostly planted with Tinto Fino (another name for Tempranillo), the vineyard also includes more international varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec, which are usually blended with Tinto Fino to give the wines more balance. From the outset, Peter Sisseck and Carlos de la Fuente opted for a planting density per hectare that was on average twice as high as in the region, allowing for a much lower yield per vine, thus improving the final quality of the grapes.
A Commitment to Excellence
From vine to bottle, great care is taken with each wine making this estate a sure bet in Ribera del Duero.
