Wine region Calabria

Vins Espagnols

Calabria, which forms the toe of the boot of Italy, is a wild region made up mainly of steep-sided mountains. The region has been famous for its wines since ancient times and brings together all the conditions required to make a quality product.

Located between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas, Calabria boasts a broad climatic variation between the sun-drenched hills on the coast and the cold plateaux in the Sila and Aspromonte massifs.

The heat of the Mediterranean climate is offset by the altitude of the vineyards, which are home to some promising local varieties. Calabria is the home par excellence of the Galioppo variety, also known as Montonico Nero, which produces wines rich in tannins that form the basis of most of the DOC reds from the region.
