Wine region Toro

Vins Espagnols

If the origins of wine making in the Toro region go back to the time of Roman occupation, it became a denomination of origin (DO) in 1987.

From nine areas in 1998 to over 50 today, the Toro region - which partly owes its reputation to the planting of the project Pintia by legendary producer Vega Sicilia - is one of the "new" most dynamic wine regions of Spain.Located close to the Portuguese border straddling the provinces of Zamora and Valladolid, Toro DO area extends over 62,000 hectares, of which only 5,800 are planted, from the north bank of the Duero river towards the city of Salamanca located further south.

The Toro region has a dry and warm continental climate with harsh winters and summer temperatures can reach 40 ° C during the day and just over 10 ° C at night. Influenced by low rainfall (about 400 mm per year), high daily temperature range and high altitude at which the grapes grow (between 600 and 750 meters), the wines of the appellation that before had a certain rusticity have now gained an elegance while maintaining a full and vibrant flavor with robust tannins and a juicy fruit.
