Avignonesi, winemaker from Tuscany
Avignonesi Winery: A Leader in Biodynamic Wines
Foundation and Ownership
Located in south-eastern Tuscany between Montepulciano and Cortona, Avignonesi Winery was founded in 1974. Founded by Ettore Falvo, who named it after his family-in-law, the estate was acquired by Virginie Saverys in 2009.
Virginie Saverys' Vision for Biodynamic Farming
After a successful career in the legal sector in Belgium, Virginie decided to pursue her dream and moved to Tuscany in 2007. Passionate about wine and with the desire to produce quality wines, she decided from the start to guide Avignonesi Winery towards a conversion to biodynamic farming. She brings her beliefs in homeopathic medicine, the use of organic products, holistic and regenerative agriculture and above all the total rejection of all chemical or synthetic products in both the vineyards and the cellar. With 175 hectares, Avignonesi Winery is not only the largest estate but also one of the leading biodynamic wineries in Italy. Its global vision of respect for the soil, the vines, the people who work on the estate, the wines and ultimately the consumers make Virginia and her winery a reference in biodynamic and organic wines. As a result of their hard work over the years, the estate has been certified organic since 2016 and its wines biodynamic since 2019.
