BEL AGLIANICO FROM MOLISE
With the advice and collaboration of Riccardo Cottarelli, renowned Italian winemaker, Di Majo Norante produce excellent wines in the little known Italian region but delicious Molise, located in the southern Adriatic. Among these, one of the most remarkable is certainly Contado Aglianico Riserva DOC.
The Aglianico is a very old grape variety brought to Italy from Greece by the Phoenicians, many centuries before our time. The name, Aglianico, would be derived from the word Elleanico or Ellenico, simply meaning Greek. The main characteristics of this grape variety are the thickness of its skin and especially its very late period of maturation for a variety of grapes that benefit from a warm climate. This allows it to maximize the complexity of aromas and flavours offered by this variety. The wine spent 12 months in small oak barrels and 6 months in the bottle before being placed on the market.
The colour is ruby red with light orange highlights. The nose is full and intense with aromas of ripe red fruit (strawberry, raspberry). On the palate, it becomes fleshy, velvety and smooth (some glycerine content), with tannins that are beginning to melt and almond hints on the finish. A wine that will make a beautiful marriage with risotto or tagliatelle with truffles, roast lamb or goat, cassoulet, couscous, game animal or bird, or even goat or sheep cheese.
