The Wine Saga of Miguel Torres the Catalan
Established in 1870 in Villafranca del Penedès, Bodega Miguel Torres has played and continues to play a pioneering role in modern viticulture in Catalonia. Its 800-hectare vineyard does not, however, cover all its needs.
Today, Torres wines range from reds such as Sangre de Toro and Gran Sangre de Toro, through simple but full-bodied whites, to the famous red wines Gran Coronas, Mas La Plana and Grans Muralles, whose reputation has now spread around the world.
Penedès is a region that has done more than any other to bring the Catalan wine industry into the modern world. And Torres was one of the first in Spain to install temperature control systems and stainless steel fermentation tanks. The Penedès region lies just south of Barcelona, in the provinces of Barcelona and Tarragona, with Villafranca del Penedès as the regional production center.
