SARDINIA WINE PACK
This wine pack is ideal for those wishing to discover the wines of Sardinia. A wine-growing region with a long history, Sardinia has benefited over the centuries from various influences that have shaped local viticulture as we know it today. It was particularly under the influence of the Kingdom of Spain, between the 13th and 18th centuries, that local viticulture developed. Many grape varieties originating from the Iberian Peninsula are still present in the vineyards today, helping to raise the profile of Sardinian viticulture. With this pack, you'll be able to taste vintages with a strong identity, highlighting the island's terroirs and all the beauty of the wines it has to offer.
This pack features three vintages produced by one producer, Cantina Del Rimedio. Located in the commune of Oristano on the western shores of Sardinia, this winery brilliantly showcases wines with a sunny accent. Thanks to a network of winegrowers who work their vineyards with passion, Cantina Del Rimedio offers quality wines that are not to be missed.
Discovering the grape varieties of wine-growing Sardinia
The first wine in this boxed set of Sardinian wines is Maimone. It features Sardinia's most widely planted red grape variety: Cannonau. Cannonau is a variety of Grenache from Spain. It was introduced to the island during Spanish rule. Cannonau usually produces well-structured wines. Here, Cantina Del Rimedio has chosen to offer a fresh, fruity red wine. The wine is matured for 6 months in barrels several years old and then for a further 6 months in cement vats to bring out its freshness. With light notes of spices and red berries, the wine is fresh and supple on the palate, with a crisp fruit finish.
Montiprama is the second bottle in this pack. The grape variety used for this wine is Nieddera. A true local speciality, Nieddera is a grape variety that exists only in Sardinia and is found mainly in the province of Oristano. This typical Sardinian grape produces a wine with floral and fruity notes. Vinified in wood and cement vats, it produces a fresh, fruity wine with long-lasting aromas.
Round off your taste journey with another of Sardinia's indigenous red grape varieties: Bovale Sardo. This grape variety is planted on just under a thousand hectares of Sardinian vineyards and is usually used as a back-up grape variety. In this Tostoinu vintage from Cantina Del Rimedio, Bovale Sardo is the only grape variety that comes to the fore. On the nose, notes of plums and blackberries. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and fruity. The tannins are plentiful and elegant, and the finish is fresh with crisp fruit.
