Discover Ionis: A Jewel of Puglia's Wine Heritage
The Birth of Ionis in the Itria Valley
Ionis is located in the Itria Valley, in the heel of Italy, between the Adriatic and Ionian seas. It is in the heart of this historic region of Puglia that the estate was born in the mid-1970s. Giulio Palmisano, a renowned oenologist, decided to set up in Salento, where the gastronomic and wine heritage is very strong. From the outset, he set out to work with and develop local varieties such as Primitivo and Negroamaro. A few decades later, he was joined by his two sons, Sergio and Mauro, and together they registered the "Ionis" brand; it was 2008.
A Commitment to Quality Wines
With more and more consumers and tasters with a demanding palate, the winery began a shift to produce high quality wines while enhancing the local grape varieties and terroirs from which they come. The continuity of quality work in the vineyards along with technical improvements in vinification allows for producing wines that are representative of Salento. Ionis is one of those wineries whose production is mainly shipped abroad.
