PUGLIA WINE SET

Discover the wines of Puglia through three different vintages. Considered the wine cellar of Italy, the Puglia wine region offers an unparalleled wealth of wines. A veritable jewel of Italian viticulture, Puglia's wines are multi-faceted.

This gift set will delight all wine lovers with its fruity, spicy character, its structure and its sunny accent. This three-bottle pack is ideal as a gift for those wishing to discover or share the beauty of this wine-growing region through three emblematic grape varieties.

A journey through the Puglia wine region

Start your taste journey with the Susumaniello grape. One of the region's oldest varieties, Susumaniello is highly regarded in the Salento area, particularly near Brindisi. Its name, which means “loaded like a donkey”, refers to its high productivity in youth, which fades after about ten years. The cuvée produced here by I Pastini is an Apulian red wine with fruity, floral notes and a full, silky structure on the palate. A perfect accompaniment to antipasti.

Uve di Troia, produced by Claudio Quarta, features the grape variety of the same name, also known as Nero di Troia. This grape variety is thought to have originated in the region of Troy, and was imported to Puglia by the Greek Diomedes, who, on returning from the famous Battle of Troy, saw his ship swept by a storm to the beaches of Puglia. Here, it gives a spicy character on the nose and a wine with a round structure on the palate. Food pairing: pasta in a spicy sauce.

Finish your discovery with Puglia's most famous grape variety: Primitivo. This is undoubtedly the grape variety that immediately springs to mind when one thinks of Italian red wines from Puglia. Originally from Dalmatia (now Croatia), it is said to have been imported to the region by the Phoenicians. It owes its name to the priest Francesco Filippo Indelicati, who after some research noticed that this variety tended to ripen first, hence the name Primitivo: the one that ripens first. Its nose often evokes spices and tobacco, an intense fruity character where blackberry and prune often come to the fore. Claudio Quarta's Primitivo Antica Masseria evokes licorice and tobacco, with a fruity touch reminiscent of blackcurrant. A full-bodied wine with a very persistent finish.
